You may feel like you’re constantly at war with yourself. One part of you longs for connection, while another shuts down. You want to speak up—but then you second-guess yourself. You try to rest, but your inner critic won’t let you. You feel like you’re too sensitive, too reactive, too much—and yet, somehow, not enough.

It’s exhausting trying to hold all of this alone. But here’s what I want you to know: there’s nothing wrong with you.

You’re not broken—you’re carrying parts of yourself that learned to protect you in the only ways they knew how. And those parts deserve care, not shame.

That’s where Internal Family Systems (IFS) comes in.

IFS is an evidence-based, compassionate model of therapy that helps you understand and connect with the different “parts” of yourself—especially those shaped by childhood trauma, emotional neglect, or growing up with emotionally unavailable caregivers.

Rather than seeing you as one fixed identity, IFS recognizes that we all have an internal system made up of different parts. Some of these parts are protectors—like the people-pleaser, the overthinker, the critic, or the part that shuts down. Others are younger parts that carry pain, fear, or shame from the past.

IFS helps you access your core Self—the calm, wise, grounded presence inside of you that can lead your internal system with compassion and clarity. From that place, you can begin to unburden the parts of you that are tired of carrying so much—and finally feel whole.

  • Heal from childhood emotional neglect or attachment wounds

  • Reduce anxiety, people-pleasing, and inner conflict

  • Build self-trust and emotional regulation

  • Connect more deeply in relationships without losing yourself

  • Quiet your inner critic and care for your sensitive parts

  • Discover a more grounded sense of who you are

IFS is gentle and non-pathologizing. You won’t be forced to relive your trauma or fix anything. Instead, we’ll slow down and begin to get curious about the parts of you that show up in everyday life—especially the ones that feel anxious, ashamed, or reactive.

You might meet:

  • The part that works hard to keep you safe by staying silent

  • The part that feels not good enough, no matter what you do

  • The part that lashes out when you feel vulnerable

  • The part that’s still carrying pain from being unseen or rejected as a child

In therapy, I’ll guide you in forming a relationship with these parts—not to get rid of them, but to understand and care for them. Over time, these parts begin to trust your inner leadership, and you’ll experience more calm, clarity, and confidence in both your inner world and your relationships.

IFS and EMDR work beautifully together. In sessions, I often combine both to support healing on both the emotional and nervous system levels. IFS allows us to build trust and connection with your internal world—helping your protective parts feel safe and understood—while EMDR helps release trauma that’s stored in the body and gently soothes the nervous system. Together, they create a deeper path toward healing from emotional neglect, relational trauma, and identity wounds—so you can feel more regulated, grounded, and whole in your everyday life.

IFS may be a good fit if you:

  • Feel like you’re made of many conflicting parts or voices

  • Struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, or people-pleasing

  • Grew up with emotionally unavailable or inconsistent caregivers

  • Often feel emotionally overwhelmed, shut down, or unsure of who you are

  • Carry shame or self-blame that doesn’t match your reality

  • Want to build emotional connection—with yourself and others—from a place of inner safety

If this sounds like you, IFS can help you stop fighting with yourself—and start building trust within.
